Toulouse city, the 4th city of France is the gateway to South West France

Known as the ‘Rose City’ because of the pink stone used in its buildings. Also famed for its pastel blue paint production from the ancient woad plant and with its emblematic flower, the beautiful violet, it is altogether a most colourful city with a unique identity.

Today, Toulouse is associated with Rugby, Aviation and the culinary dish, Cassoulet.

Going deeper in to its past, it has a heritage of private mansions and religious buildings dating back to its Golden Age.

A university city, influenced by its proximity to Spain, it has a youthful atmosphere that embraces the outdoors and with a definite taste for all kinds of celebrations.

A gastronomic delight, savour the local products of foie gras, duck breast, Toulouse sausage, local cheeses and wines as well as the best of fruit and vegetables.

It has become the first Aeronautic Centre in Europe and with a superb visitor facility, enthusiasts can tour the Airbus assembly lines.

A further attraction is  the City of Space – a theme park dedicated to exploring  the mysteries of Space.

Rugby weekends when Stade Toulousain are playing at home are lively occasions, especially at De Danu bar, Irish owned by our former International player, Trevor Brennan, long adopted by the Toulousains.

Natural open outdoor areas are the many parks and gardens and especially the canals. Toulouse is the meeting point of the Canal du Midi and the Canal de Garonne, linking the Atlantic with the Mediterranean.

To enjoy Toulouse, you will need to take your time, walk around its lively streets, stroll around the street markets or just linger a while on a street café terrace and watch the world go by.
